FINAL UPDATE

We are very happy to announce the opening of the registration of the virtual (online) EALE/SOLE/AASLE conference, which will take place on June 25-27. The event will use multiple digital formats to foster scientific interaction and discussions. The event will engage many senior labor economists who have enthusiastically offered networking sessions and who will act as scientific chairs for parallel sessions.  Michael Keane, Jessica Pan, Erik Plug and Petra Todd will hold keynotes. Overall, we are excited how positive the feedback is in the community to maintain academic exchange during these times.

To hold an online conference of this magnitude is new for all of us and we are looking forward to sharing this exciting experience with you. To simplify things, we decided to change the format for parallel session presentations. Rather than full 30 min slots, presenters will give flash talk presentations. Moreover, papers initially accepted for poster presentations will be included in these sessions.

Each flash talk presentation will be allocated 10 minutes for presentation and a short discussion. At the end of all presentations, we reserve 30 minutes for additional discussion. We aim to include six presentations in every 90 minute session. Senior labor economists will act as scientific session chairs, helping to structure and facilitate the academic exchange.

To foster interaction, senior economists will also offer networking session to meet with conference participants in small groups and discuss various aspects of research in a more informal manner.

You can find more specific information on the website at http://www.eale.nl/eale-sole-aasle-world-conference-2020-2/, which will be regularly updated with details on the event. The detailed program will be available by June 1.

Please note that we are aware that time zone differences of participants are a major challenge for an international virtual event. Be assured that we will take account of this when putting the program together.

If you have already registered and paid your registration fee for the in-person conference, please confirm by answering to this e-mail indicating whether you want to participate in the virtual conference. You will be refunded for the fee difference, or fully (should you decide to not participate).

The virtual conference fees are:

·       Regular participants € 100,--

·       PhD-students: € 50,--

If your paper was accepted but you have not yet registered for the conference, you can still do so until May 20, 2020!  Registration is now open at http://www.eale.nl/conference-registration/

Note that participation in the on-line EALE SOLE AASLE World conference 2020 requires your individual membership of either one of the societies for this year. You will find further information on the membership option on the http://www.eale.nl/conference-registration/

The global pandemic and subsequent cancellation of the physical conference have put the societies organizing this conference under financial pressure. If you already registered at the original rate and are able to afford that fee we would greatly appreciate you letting us know and we will gratefully use that money to defray these losses. If you have not yet registered, note that we maintained the possibility to register at one of the standard (supporting) fees. Again, your support is highly appreciated.

We are working hard to make EALE/SOLE/AASLE 2020 a big success, and we are excited to explore new formats for scientific exchange and discourse.

We look forward to interacting with many of you at our conference in June!

Erik Plug (EALE President)

Robert Moffitt (SOLE President-Elect)

#4 Update COVID-19 and the Berlin conference April 30, 2020

The corona crisis and the uncertainties and risk involved when organizing an international conference in the near future have made it impossible to stick to the pre-announced timeline for planning the conference. To give all of us further time under these difficult circumstances, we extend the registration deadline to May 15.

We still are committed to maintain scientific exchange even through these unusual times. We are working hard on organizing the EALE-SOLE-AASLE World conference 25-27 June, 2020 and aim to offer online presentations at a reduced fee.

We apologize for the continued uncertainty and will provide more information as soon as we can.

#3 Update COVID-19 and the Berlin conference April 11, 2020

We will continue planning the EALE/SOLE/AASLE World Conference on labor economics in Berlin. We are committed to maintain scientific exchange even through these unusual times. We are aware that governmental restrictions may prevent participants from physically attending the conference in Berlin. In case such restrictions apply, we aim to offer those participants the possibility to participate and present their paper online against a reduced fee. We apologize for the continued uncertainty and will provide more information as soon as we can.

#2 Update COVID-19 and the Berlin conference March 12, 2020

We will continue our work on planning and delivering an excellent World Conference on labour economics.

As the new measures in various countries to prevent the dissemination of COVID-19 make it difficult for many of us to register now, we decided that the early registration date for the Berlin conference remains open until April 15, 2020.

As this unprecedented situation is changing every day, but hopefully will improve over the next weeks, we remain watchful and stay in close contact with the relevant health authorities in Germany.

Previous updates since March 8, 2020:

#1 Update COVID-19 and the Berlin conference March 12, 2020

Immediate measures to prevent the coronavirus spread are currently taken in Germany and other countries. This will force us to take a decision on the organization of the Berlin conference.  We therefore have to close the registration and will communicate any further news later.

EALE SOLE AASLE CONFERENCE BERLIN IS GOING AHEAD

Because of the global challenges presented by COVID-19, some of you have been asking whether we plan to postpone or cancel our joint EALE SOLE AASLE world conference in Berlin scheduled for June 25-27, 2020 (still 15 weeks away). We have NO plans to postpone or cancel at this time. We want to let you know that the organizing team at Humboldt University, EALE, SOLE, and AASLE continue to plan confidently for the conference.

We are very grateful for the support of our program committee and the program chairs working on the scientific program and last but not least we appreciate that a sizeable number of people has already registered for the conference.

The world conference organizing teams are in close contact with the relevant health authorities in Germany. We focus on the facts and act with common sense and judgement, taking the advice of the relevant authorities and scientists. As this unprecedented situation is changing every day, we remain watchful but also focused on planning and delivering an excellent World Conference on labour economics.

Please check the conference website www.eale.nl for periodic updates as the situation evolves.

We look forward to welcoming you to the EALE SOLE AASLE World conference in Berlin and wish you all the best.
